No Bake Energy Bites

No Bake Energy Bites

It’s Monday friends! Are you going to do big things this week? My to-do list is daunting, but I’m excited about getting back down to business this week! And how better to get lots of things done than fuel. And by fuel, I mean food.

A thing that I used to do when I had an office job was mid-afternoon snacks… Usually I brought along something healthy—fruit & yogurt, crudites, homemade trail mix, for example—and other times I’d run down for a mid-afternoon kefir (and if I’m being totally honest here, sometimes a bag of chips), but I almost always had something to help quell my hunger between lunch and dinner.

You would think that such mid-afternoon snacks would have become easier after my transition to working from home, but in fact no. Without the routine (or the ease of food-court access) that comes from the office my mid-afternoon snacking fell by the wayside when I left my job.

If your not familiar with the word “hangry”, familiarize yourself now. If it isn’t obvious to you, hangry is a mashup between hungry and angry, and it is what happens to me—and to most people I know—when we get hungry. For me, 4pm is hanger time, and it isn’t pleasant for anyone in it’s path.

I needed to find an at-home snack. Inspired by pinterest, I decided to try out these “no-bake energy bites” and am I ever glad that I did.

The original recipe makes it clear: any recipe for these bites is just a suggestion, and I took it as such myself. With the basic building blocks (oats, coconut, and peanut butter) you’ve got the perfect platform for all sorts of varied mid-afternoon snacks.

This time, I used oats, coconut, peanut butter, raisins, flax seeds, and pepitas. I didn’t add another sweetener (e.g., honey in the original recipe), and I actually think that made it easier to eat just one or two.

You could even take these delicious bites to the office, as long as you don’t have a no-peanut policy in effect (or alternatively, if you use a different nut-butter).

Relatively nutritious, delicious, filling, and quick to make make these extra awesome. Love at first bite, to be sure.

The Craigslist Decorator

The Craigslist Decorator

Happy Friday friends! Remember that amazing place I told you about in big time stress mode on Tuesday? Well, we found out a couple of days ago that we got it, woohoo! Move in day: May 15.

We’ve got the top two floors (including the attic, with it’s sweet sloped roofline) of this 101 year old character house. The front of the house faces north, and our sweet, XL back patio faces south. And it is going to be absolutely perfect for my newest project: The Craigslist Decorator.

“What is the Craigslist Decorator?” You ask? Well, basically I am going to decorate an awesome and unique apartment for under $1,500 using mostly (you guessed it) craigslist! This project has been years in the making. I first had the idea when were thinking of moving to a new place in Toronto, probably 3 years ago!

Since we aren’t moving in until May 15, I won’t be craigslisting or thrifting much until then, but after that… watch out! I’ll be posting once or twice a week with updates, which will be a mix of regular blog posts, vlogs, and more

The first stop? My new office. In the attic. I can’t wait! And, a great source for inspiration? You guessed it: pinterest!

I’m so excited about manufacturing some sort of built in shelving unit to line the sloped ceilings, creating both an awesome workspace and an inviting meeting space for client consultations.

We’ve also got a large kitchen (which is south facing, sunny, and will be amazing for morning coffee), a gigantic bathroom, a living room, and bedroom with a walk-in closet! (Welcome to grown-up hood, Al)

So. I’m excited.

Have a super Friday friends! I’ll be back tomorrow with a food post, since I’ve sort of fallen off the rails a bit while I’ve been busy meeting all this summer’s clients, and obsessed with place-finding!

pretty palette + outfit design

pretty palette + outfit design

I’m becoming a palette fiend! And, in the palettes I’m making myself, it’s more of a Japanese-themed palette fiend. Today’s palette comes from an awesome vintage wallpaper by Maraid Design.

I’m loving the combo of the cream, red, pink and deep blue. Remember last week when I said you could use these palettes for anything, including “outfit design”? Well, when I saw this palette I immediately thought of a cute outfit: a navy dress, a beige cardigan, red accessories and coral shoes. Love.
Red + Pink = Awesome

I’ve seen colour palettes all over the internet recently (primarily on Pugly Pixel and all over Pinterest), but I never really understood what inspired someone to put one together. That all changed when I came across this beautiful image! As soon as I saw it, I thought “I have to make a palette”.

Perfect for March 1 and the advent of spring, no?

You can use palettes for branding, web design, home decor, party planning, wedding planning, outfit planning, the list is endless! Want to see more palettes? I’ve set up a palette board on pinterest, or you can follow any of these awesome palette boards as well!

Want to make your own palettes? You can use ColourLover or its offline equivalent ColorSchemer to create a palette, and then use photoshop to make it into a palette! This awesome print is by Yellena James, check out her etsy shop.

Prefab-ulous

Prefab-ulous

Remember when I used to talk about pinterest all the time? Then I got side tracked and started talking about all sorts of other things like living the dream, moving to South America, and going to Antarctica. And I love all those big things. They are amazing. But I also still love pinterest. And my newest obsession courtesy of pinterest?

Prefab houses.

I know what you’re thinking. You are thinking that I’ve gone off the deep end. But seriously friends, I woke up yesterday morning to this teensy tiny prefab house.

Dwelle-ing by Dwelle

And no kidding, this created a monster. A prefab monster with a gigantic pinboard called “fab prefab”. I just want to buy a lot on the coast, but in a forest, with a mountain view and watch my prefab house go up in a month with its eco-friendly finishes and its ability to get by off the grid. (Ok, only some of these houses are completely off the grid, but still).

I’m obsessed. (Extra obsessed with the Homb and the Preform T House (bonus points for being Vancouver-based). But obsessed with the whole style, nonetheless.

Have you ever discovered something you LOVE, an immediate obsession, that you formerly associated with less-than-classy locales?
